Handmade goats milk, honey, lemon and oaty soap bars

Want to make natural and simple gifts for friends and family? Look no further! These goats milk, honey, lemon and oaty soap bars won’t take you more than half an hour to make and won’t break the bank either.

What you’ll need

  • 500g Goats milk soap base
  • 50g Oats
  • 2 Tbsp Honey
  • Lemon essential oil

  • Microwaveable jug
  • Microwave
  • Food processor
  • Knife
  • Chopping board
  • Spoons
  • Silicone moulds

What to do:

First off you want to chop up your soap base into cubes and pop it in the jug. (This is half of the tub of soap base advertised above.)

Now you want to microwave the soap base in 30 second sessions, stirring it in between each one. Do this until all the soap has melted and there are no lumps.

Whilst you are waiting for the microwave to melt your soap base, pop 3/4 of the oats in a food processor (or Nutri ninja) and blitz until a fine powder.

Pop your silicon mould onto a baking tray or board of some kind – this makes it easier to move it to where ever you want to leave them to set. Then sprinkle the remaining oats into the bottom of your silicon moulds. I think this gives the soap a nice touch – you don’t have to if you don’t want to!

Once all your soap base is melted, stir in the powdered oats, the 2 tbsp of honey and add about 6-10 drops of lemon essential oil. You want to do this quite quickly or the soap will start to set.

Once it is all mixed, pour an even amount into each of your moulds and leave to set. This makes 6 bars using the moulds I have.

Setting time will vary depending on the temperature and humidity in your house, it usually only takes a few hours for me. Once set just turn the bars out of the silicon moulds and your done! Here’s one of my finished bars…

We’ve been using one in our en-suite for months now and it’s not even a 1/3 gone! They last for ages and leave your hands lovely and soft and smelling lovely.

  1. I love this post! I’ve been thinking about making soaps for a long time but wasn’t sure in it but you’ve convinced me otherwise – your look great!

Have you tried any of the other soap bases from amazon? Did you find the goats milk one nourishing enough for hands?

    1. I haven’t tried any others yet, it’s on my to do list… but the goats milk one has been great for our hands, the oats and honey in there helps too! Be interested to hear if anyone has any recommendations for other soap bases.

  2. I’ve been wanting to make some homemade products for so long, I’m definitely going to be trying these out! I’d love a cherry or lime one too, I think they’d smell amazing! The honey in it would be so lovely and nourishing 🙂
